Manchester United rounded off matchweek six with a woeful 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which has left them 12th-placed in the Premier League table.

After claiming a mere seven points from the 18 available, Erik ten Hag again finds himself under mounting pressure in the Old Trafford dugout.

Reports over his looming sacking have begun doing the rounds left, right and centre after the Dutchman extended a dismal run of overseeing only six wins in the side’s last 20 league games, with numerous candidates already tipped to succeed him – only three months after INEOS made the decision to stick rather than twist.

Last night, when Chris Kavanagh blew his whistle for full-time and put United out of their misery, Chelsea appeared to fire a subtle dig their rival’s way on social media.

Their Twitter/X administrator shared a snap of Cole Palmer celebrating alongside a smiling Jadon Sancho, who is, of course, on loan from the Red Devils after a tumultuous relationship breakdown with Ten Hag, and he proceeded to repost the picture to his personal account.

The winger has enjoyed a significantly brighter start to the campaign than he would’ve at his parent club, with the Stamford Bridge outfit currently occupying a Champions League place in fourth and on the back of a 4-2 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. Sancho, 24, has assisted in each of his three league appearances since his loan began.
