Chelsea could let Christopher Nkunku leave the club for as little as €40m (£34.3m) this summer.
Nkunku has struggled for fitness and favour since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig and is assessing his options ahead of the summer transfer window.
After injuries restricted the French forward to just two league starts in his debut campaign, he has failed to win a regular role under new head coach Enzo Maresca this season. He was left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s 2-1 win at Fulham with Maresca calling his omission a ‘technical decision’.
Nkunku has started just nine times in the Premier League and has been unable to dislodge Cole Palmer or Nicolas Jackson for a first-choice role.
His situation has alerted several clubs, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United all named as potential suitors.
French outlet MaxiFoot are reporting that Chelsea are prepared to take a financial hit to offload Nkunku. The 27-year-old signed for Chelsea in a £52m deal but will be allowed to leave for around £34.3m at the end of the campaign.
A return to the Bundesliga looks a likely option for Nkunku, who thrived at Leipzig before his Premier League transfer. He was named Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021/22 before ending the following campaign as the league’s joint top-scorer. He netted 58 goals in the two seasons that preceded his move to Chelsea but has managed just six league goals for the Blues.
