Drama just seems to attach itself to Chelsea permanently and follow the club around like a bad smell, and this week has certainly thrown up some fresh drama.
Raheem Sterling is now being forced out of the club and has been banished from first team training, even being sent home this week to allegedly digest the news of being told that basically, he is not wanted anymore after being left out of the squad to play Manchester City at the weekend.
Sterling now looks dead certainty to be leaving the club this window, or at least that is what Chelsea are pushing and want him to do.
Other players are also in this position.
Sterling now surplus to requirements at Chelsea
According to an opinion article by Jason Burt of The Telegraph this week, Chelsea’s website recently described Sterling as a ‘leader’. And then head coach Enzo Maresca even described him as ‘an important player’ too. But now, he’s not wanted by either club or manager apparently.
Burt wrote:
‘Raheem Sterling, in a few short days, has gone from being a “leader” (the word used by Chelsea in an interview on their website) and “an important player” (the phrase used by Maresca) to being someone who will not play and not his kind of “winger”. Hmmm.’
‘Suddenly Sterling is out and last week’s Chelsea website interview, Maresca’s warm words during the pre-season tour to the United States and the forward featuring in all six warm-up games mean nothing. He is no longer wanted even if he has this week been used in promotional material for a sponsor.’
I’m totally fine for Sterling being sold by the way, should have been sold ages ago, he hasn’t been good enough it’s as simple as that.
