Chelsea are now open to letting Carney Chukwuemeka leave on loan after struggling to attract suitors interested in a permanent sale.
The Blues were reportedly hoping to get £35-£40 million for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, but no one was willing to cough up that sum for a player barely getting any game time.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are now open to letting Chukwuemeka leave on loan, and Borussia Dortmund are pushing for his signature.
They made him a top target but never planned on paying Chelsea’s asking price. The Blues are now more open to a loan deal with no option to buy.
Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea for £20 million in 2022 but he has struggled for playing time.
Chelsea have an abundance of midfield talents in the squad, including Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Unsurprisingly, he wants to leave to develop his game. He can return ready to help the team or at least increase his value while in Germany.
Chelsea are also considering sending him to France to join sister club Strasbourg.
However, Chelsea already have a strong contingent of loanees there and would need to cut one short to allow Chukwuemeka to sign.
Dortmund are also pushing to sign Chelsea defender Renato Veiga. The former Basel man is reportedly angling to go to the Bundesliga to play as a centre-back to lock in his name for the 2026 World Cup.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca wasn’t particularly sympathetic to Veiga’s demands for more playing time.
Asked about Veiga wanting to play more regularly, the Chelsea boss replied (via Sky Sports): “I have said many times – I also want the long hair (laughs), but we have 24 or 25 players, so it is not possible.”
The Italian asked Veiga to sit tight and respect the fact that the Blues gave him the platform to earn his international spot.
