Chelsea have set their asking price for Mason Mount amid speculation around his future.

Mount came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, earning his first professional contract in 2017. Following spells on loan at Vitesse and Derby County, he broke into the first team at Stamford Bridge under then-manager Frank Lampard.

Since then, he has been a regular for both club and country. He played a key role in Thomas Tuchel’s side that won the Champions League in 2021, scoring in the semi-final and assisting Kai Havertz’s first-half winner in the final.

However, he has struggled to capture his best form this season. In 32 appearances in all competitions, the England international has bagged just three goals and three assists.

Mount’s contract expires in 2024, and negotiations over an extension have stalled. This has led to speculation over his future, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich both said to be interested.

Chelsea may opt to cash in while he still has value. According to The Athletic, they will demand a fee of around £70 million for the midfielder this summer.

Liverpool need a new central midfielder. Since the beginning of 2019, they have signed just one player in this area on a permanent basis – Thiago Alcantara in 2020.

As a result, the Reds’ midfield has aged and become stale. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to move on in the summer, while Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are all on the wrong side of 30.

As for Bayern Munich, new boss Tuchel is eyeing a reunion. As mentioned above, the pair won a Champions League title together at the Blues in 2021, with Mount playing a vital role.

For now, Tuchel’s focus will be on kicking off his stint at the Allianz Arena in style. The Bavarians are still in with a shout of the treble but currently sit in second place in the Bundesliga.

The 49-year-old will begin with a crucial clash against table-toppers Borussia Dortmund this weekend.
