With Real Madrid scouring the market for reinforcements in the midfield department, the name of Chelsea mainstay Enzo Fernandez has emerged as a potential target.

The Argentine World Cup winner has been on the Merengues’ radars for a while now and with the club ramping up pursuit of a new midfielder, he is being considered a possible candidate.

Enzo Maresca dismisses exit talks

However, speaking at a press conference, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shut down any talks of Enzo Fernandez leaving the club this summer amid links to Real Madrid.

When asked if the midfielder would continue at Chelsea next season, the head coach responded with a strong “Yes,” as relayed by ESPN.

Further elaborating on the Argentine international’s situation, Maresca added: “He is one of our captains … this season has been very good and he can be even better next season, starting from the first day.”

Move unlikely

Even if there was a possibility that Chelsea would consider parting ways with Enzo Fernandez in the summer, a move for him would cost Real Madrid a large sum in transfer fees.

Indeed, reports suggest that the Premier League giants would demand a fee in excess of the €121 million that they had paid to sign him from SL Benfica a couple of years ago.

Real Madrid, despite their interest, have no plans to entertain any such demands. Thus, it is extremely unlikely that the Argentine will make a switch to the Spanish capital in the summer.

As for Los Blancos, they are exploring alternatives with names such as Alexis Mac Allister, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rodri among those being considered as options to reinforce the midfield department.
