Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that defender Reece James is in the squad to face Liverpool this weekend.

James has not appeared this season, continuing his long-term battle with hamstring injuries that have hampered his career.

The influential right-back missed around half of Chelsea’s games last term through injury but recovered towards the end of the campaign.

The England international played in most of Chelsea’s pre-season games and looked like a crucial piece for Maresca.

However, he sustained another hamstring issue in early August, ruling him out for several weeks. When he made a comeback, he suffered a frustrating relapse.

The Chelsea academy graduate will likely start from the bench at Anfield with Malo Gusto deputising. The Frenchman has been a more than capable deputy, but James is a better player.

James is a terrific player at both ends of the pitch. Gusto is the most dribbled past player in the Premier League at an average of 2.2 times per game). He also struggles with final balls, and his shooting needs work.

These are all areas where the Englishman excels. He is as complete as they come and will be a welcome addition for Maresca.

As James returns to the Chelsea squad, fans will undoubtedly be excited and anxious. His undeniable talent and leadership make him a crucial asset to the team.

However, his recurring hamstring injuries have cast a shadow over his career. Chelsea supporters will be hoping James can finally stay fit and make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

His presence on the pitch could be a game-changer for Maresca’s side as they look to clinch a top-four finish this season. He will hope to get a few minutes on the pitch against Liverpool.

Chelsea will be desperate to secure a decent result against the Premier League table-toppers, but Arne Slot’s side are the favourites for this clash.
