Chelsea are making a bold move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.

The Daily Mail claims the Blues have approached Newcastle to express their interest in signing the Swedish international.

Landing Isak wouldn’t be cheap for Chelsea. They will likely need to spend beyond the £115 million club transfer record fee they paid to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Isak’s reputation has skyrocketed since his move to Newcastle in 2022.

The 24-year-old bagged 25 goals in 40 games across all competitions last season, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with.

His 21 Premier League goals were only bettered by Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland (27) and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (22), cementing his status as one of the best finishers in the country.

Injuries hampered his first season at St James’ Park, but his talent shone through in the following year, and he has been a consistent performer for the Magpies since shaking off his niggles.

While Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to keep his star players, the club has acknowledged that no one is untouchable as they strive to adhere to the strict financial regulations.

Isak has four years left on his contract with the Magpies, but talks of a new deal have surfaced, although there’s no confirmation of a signed agreement yet.

He isn’t the only striker Chelsea are chasing. The Blues are searching for a proven goalscorer to bolster their attacking options under new manager Enzo Maresca.

They’re close to securing a deal for Barcelona’s young talent Marc Guiu, but they also want an experienced finisher to lead the line.

Landing Isak would be a game-changer for Chelsea, who are determined to re-establish themselves among the Premier League’s elite clubs next season.

Finishing sixth last term only earned them Europa Conference League football.

They are determined to qualify for the Champions League next season, and Isak would help them get closer to the top four.
