There has been some season crushing news come out that has rocked Chelsea late last night as it emerges Nicolas Jackson is now injured.
The Blues only fit striker is now going to be out injured until around April time and is in danger of missing a massive chunk of what is left of the season.
He joins Chelsea’s only other number 9 option, Marc Guiu, on the injury list, and Chelsea now have a striker crisis.
The Blues are apparently ‘confident’ in the options they have left, which I find astonishing because there aren’t any! They have Christopher Nkunku, who is a 10 and not a 9 and has actually been terrible as a 9 when asked to play there. And other than that, they will be forced to pick a midfielder or a winger as a false 9 to cover, and that is never ideal.
There are two other options that the club and Enzo Maresca can call upon though, but these two are both young, raw, and VERY inexperienced.

Nizaar Kinsella of The BBC has put his report out on the injuries, and he names a couple of academy players who can step up.
He says Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku are likely to deputise in the duo’s absence, but also mentions in a post on X Deivid Washington or Shim Mheuka as players who could get a look in if needed.
I believe it will be the aforementioned two players who will be leaned on the most by Maresca as options up top, but that is far from ideal.
Maybe Chelsea have a look at the free agent market, but there aren’t too many options there either. And I very much doubt they would even think of that.
