Chelsea have enquired about signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford who’s attracting strong interest from Newcastle according to reports.
The Blues are once again set for a busy summer and could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players.
Chelsea face a critical window and have already secured the signing of Liam Delap, with the club also looking to add a centre back and right footed attacker to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Fans would love the Blues to sign a new goalkeeper, but it had been unclear whether Chelsea were going to enter the market for a new number one.
However, it was reported on Tuesday they made an approach to AC Milan for Mike Maignan, and are thought to be preparing an offer of £20-£25m for the 29-year-old.
Chelsea clearly feel their current options aren’t good enough, and Maresca is said to believe Maignan is the perfect fit for his system.

Maignan isn’t the only goalkeeper Chelsea are keeping tabs on and journalist Jacob Steinberg has provided an update.
He took to X.com and said:
“As well as asking Milan about signing Mike Maignan, Chelsea have also enquired about Burnley’s James Trafford.
“Stronger recent interest in Trafford coming from Newcastle though.”
Trafford had a brilliant season for Burnley as they secured promotion back to the Premier League and he kept 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances.
With a new goalkeeper seemingly on the way that plunges the future of Petrovic into doubt, who excelled on loan at Strasbourg.
