Chelsea are insistent that they did not pay for Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim to fly to London last week and did not hold any talks with him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Amorim is expected to depart Sporting Lisbon at the end of the season and was a strong contender for the Liverpool job.

He has also held talks with West Ham and the spotlight was put on the Portuguese last week when he flew to London on a private jet.

Amorim later apologised to the Sporting Lisbon fans and admitted he should not have made the trip.

There have been suggestions in some quarters that Chelsea paid for the flight and held talks with Amorim.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are clear though that they did not pay for the Portuguese to fly over or speak to him.

Chelsea currently have Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, though there continues to be speculation over his job security.

The Blues sit just ninth in the Premier League table and have only won 13 of their 33 league games so far this season.
