Chelsea are aware that Manchester United are prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho during the winter transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The Argentina international has regularly played as a substitute since he was dropped by manager Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby last month.

This has increased speculation regarding his future. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that the Blues have made direct contact with United for Garnacho.

Garnacho’s representative was also spotted at Stamford Bridge on Monday, and the Blues are reportedly aware of United’s willingness to part ways with the winger.

United could part ways with Garnacho this winter

The 20-year-old has been one of the club’s standout performers over the past two years, but his future has been put into doubt with the change of formation.

United have played in a 3-4-2-1 system under Amorim. This has limited Garnacho’s playing time, considering he primarily operates as a left-sided winger.

Garnacho is not accustomed to playing as an attacking midfielder. Amad Diallo’s emergence has meant that he is no longer guaranteed a regular starting position.

The £42 million-rated star is not actively pushing for a winter exit, but United seem prepared to cash in on his services with the opportunity to raise funds for new signings.

Garnacho would provide pure profit to the Red Devils as a club graduate. Chelsea are not alone in the pursuit, with Napoli also holding negotiations for the attacker.

United must avoid selling him to a direct Premier League rival. If Garnacho were to be sold, the hierarchy should look to sanction his transfer to an overseas club.
