In a recent report, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Chelsea are big admirers of Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons. It has been stated that the Blues have made contact with the Dutch talent’s representatives over a potential move this summer.
Simons enjoyed a good run of form at the German club as he put in a handful of promising displays for them in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old scored 11 times and earned eight assists in 33 matches for Red Bull Leipzig last season across all fronts.
The Dutch talent has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his attempts on target. Simons even distributed the ball relatively well after making 78.6% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Red Bull Arena will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Blues to snap him up this off-season.

Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few impressive runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third.
The Dutch sensation can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also serve as a winger on either flank if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether Simons can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing a player of Simons’ skill set. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s attack. He might even help the West London giants compete for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 22, Simons has a lot of room to grow as a footballer. Therefore, the Blues should focus on getting a deal done for the Dutch attacker before the end of this transfer period.
