In no particular order I’m going to go through some players that have represented both Newcastle United and Chelsea in the last 40+ years.

I think the best of the lot was Gavin Peacock who Bald Eagle Jim Smith signed from Bournemouth in 1990.

Gavin was one of United’s most inspirational players under Smith, Ossie Ardiles and Kevin Keegan in the early nineties.

A scorer of some memorable goals, he was a pivotal member of Keegan’s promotion team in 1992/93.

Glenn Hoddle took him back down south to Chelsea in 1993, but Gavin has always been fondly remembered on Tyneside ever since.

Geordie lad Joe Allon is another who has pulled on the colours of Newcastle and Chelsea, although only briefly.

After a woeful spell at United in the late eighties, Dave Beasant eventually got his career back on track at Stamford Bridge.

Laurent Charvet was on loan at Chelsea before joining United from Cannes in 1998.

Demba Ba is one of Newcastle United’s best ever free transfers. We snapped him up from West Ham in 2011 after the Hammers were relegated from the EPL. He went on to score 29 Premier League goals for United in 54 appearances, before joining the reigning Champions of Europe Chelsea in January 2013.

Newcastle signed Loic Remy on loan from QPR in 2013 and the Frenchmen scored an impressive 14 goals in 26 Premier League games, before joining Chelsea on a permanent deal in 2014.

Celestite Babayaro was a Graeme Souness signing who had clearly left his best days behind him at Stamford Bridge.

Another Souness signing from Chelsea was Scott Parker, who soon obtained the captain’s armband. Parker never reached the heights at Gallowgate that he would attain to later in his career elsewhere.

Glenn Roeder spent £5m to bring Damien Duff to United from Chelsea in 2006. It turned out to be a case of ‘Duff by name, Duff by nature’ and it was soon clear that Chelsea had took us to the cleaners.

Patrick Van Aanholt had a short loan at United from Chelsea in 2010.

Geremi arrived as a free agent from Chelsea by Sam Allardyce in 2007. Sadly, he was yet another who was no longer the player he had previously been at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian Kenedy flattered to deceive in two loan spells under Rafa Benitez between 2017 and 2018.

One of the real hard men of English football in the 80s and 90s was Mick Harford.

Sunderland born Mick scored 4 goals for United in 19 appearances during the 1980/81 season. He was one of new boss Arthur Cox’s first signings and unfortunately thrown into a poor side that it would take Cox years to rebuild.

Big Mick later made his name at Luton Town and became an England international, before having a brief spell at Chelsea scoring 9 goals in 28 league appearances in 1992/93.

More recently we have had some better luck in recruiting from Chelsea, Lewis Hall a tremendous acquisition. As was Tino Livramento who also came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, although his journey saw him move from Chelsea to Southampton and then to Tyneside.

Both young lads have bags of talent and are now fully fledged England internationals.

They can achieve anything they want to in the black and white stripes, as United are now right in the mix with the Chelseas of this world.
