Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have once again hit a stalemate in talks over Carney Chukwuemeka. The Bundesliga club’s attempts to secure a fresh loan deal doesn’t jive with the plans of the Premier League outfit. Chelsea still wish to offload the 21-year-old permanently.
Romano goes so far as to suggest that this may spell the end of Dortmund’s pursuit of the England U20 international. Even though Chukwuemeka enjoyed some success during his spring loan stint with BVB, the attacker’s €18m price tag appears too much for the injury prone player.
Dortmund presently operate with an estimated €19.5m summer transfer surplus thanks to the lucrative sale of Jamie Gittens to the Blues. Romano claims that the Westphalians are considering “other options” without referencing any specific names.
At the moment, there aren’t any reliable links in the German rumor mills shedding light on who else Dortmund may potentially be targeting.
