Charlton Athletic sign American midfielder Kenney | OneFootball

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of American midfielder Gillian Kenney.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 22-year-old makes the move to The Valley off the back of a period playing her football in the American college system. Kenney spent 12 years with South Shore Select.

While Kenney is seen as a midfielder player, the youngster can also operate in attack. In the early days of her high school career, she netted 21 goals in a season, helping her club to win the 2020 Patriot League Championship. Kenney has often found herself back in more familiar midfield territory of late but that hasn’t stopped her from contributing goals and assists.

After completing the move to Charlton Athletic, Kenney said “I’m very excited. I’m really looking forward to being in a new environment and having the opportunity to play here. I’m over the moon.

“My goals are to make an impact as a brand new player, develop a good relationship with the team and overall, just try to do my best.”

Kenney is Charlton Athletic’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The South East Londoners are expected to complete several more deals before the new season kicks-off.
