Charlton Athletic are interested in signing Blackpool's Rob Apter, although the League One side do not want to sell their top talent.
Charlton Athletic have made Blackpool’s Rob Apter a ‘top target’ this window, although the League One side are determined to keep the midfielder at Bloomfield Road.
The 22-year-old joined the Tangerines from Tranmere as a teenager, and he has had to be patient in his quest for regular first-team football.
Apter has had several loan moves over the years, including a successful return to Tranmere in the 2023/24 campaign, which ensured he would stick around at Blackpool in the previous season.
The attack-minded midfielder, who can play down the right flank or in an advanced role, enjoyed a hugely impressive individual season, even though Steve Bruce’s side failed to make the play-offs.
Apter missed just one game for Blackpool, as he scored eight times and registered three assists in the third tier.
It appears such form has caught the eye of Nathan Jones, as Football Insider revealed that the Londoners are looking to bring Apter to the capital.
They claim that he is high on Jones’ list of potential arrivals, although it's made clear that Blackpool don’t want to sell, as Bruce looks to build a team that can win promotion next season.
Apter’s current contract with Blackpool is set to expire in the summer of 2027, so they will be under no pressure to cash in due to that.
Jones has done a terrific job at The Valley, but he knows they will face a battle to stay in the Championship after their fantastic promotion.
Realistically, Charlton aren’t going to have a budget to compete with many at this level, so it’s about being smart in recruitment.
That won’t bother the boss, as he has shown during his time at Luton that he has an eye for a player, and he will try to replicate that with the Addicks, and there’s sure to be a focus on players who have a point to prove.
Apter fits the bill on that front, as he is a young, hungry player who would love the chance to play in the Championship, and he has the potential to handle the step-up.
Clearly, it won’t be an easy deal to do, but he could be a good addition to Charlton if they can get it over the line.
