25 year old De Haas stands at a towering 6ft 4 inches and by all accounts is a no nonsense defender, something we are in need of acquiring to bolster our backline, but his playing style very much differs from what Brendan Rodgers requires in his centre backs.
By all accounts De Haas had a decent campaign with Famalicao, but a quick trawl through his highlight reel suggest he’s not your typical Dutch defender and looks more of a lump the ball up the park defender than a ball playing centre back.

There’s also question marks over his pace and mobility, something that was believed to have held both Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke back in their quest to impress Brendan Rodgers.
The latest news from Daily Record is that the Bhoys are interested in towering Dutch defender Justin de Haas. De Haas currently plays his football in Portugal’s top division with Famalicão and according to the Record’s Michael Gannon, has been “scouted extensively with Celtic keen on defensive reinforcements.” With Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke also on the move and Stephen Welsh looking surplus to requirements, there’s a need for someone more capable to come in and challenge Auston Trusty and Liam Scales for that starting berth beside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Dutchman is said to have been scouted by a whole host of teams across European football and would cost somewhere in the region of £3 million, if he were to be taken off of Famalicão’s hands this summertime. Being a left-sided centre-back to boot would make news of Celtic’s interest quite probable, as Rodgers does like to have that balance in his backline, as opposed to having a right-footed pairing more often than not.
All just hearsay and conjecture for now though, but one thing is for sure, things are certainly beginning to ramp up in terms of transfer speculation and the rumour mill is going into overdrive at present. Hopefully we will see some more movement in, sooner, rather than later it has to be said.
