The striker is on his way out of the club for a reported £10 million to French club Rennes, leaving the team shy of a centre-forward and Brendan Rodgers in immediate need of reinforcement in that area of the team.

Mathias Kvistgaarden and Mohamed Bayo have been linked

Mathias Kvistgaarden and Mohamed Bayo have been mentioned so far, with Kvistgaarden a long-term target with the scouting department. The club tried with a bid in the summertime but it wasn’t enough to convince Brondby to part with the powerful attacker. It’s said now that they are holding out for a club-record fee of over £10 million and it remains to be seen if Celtic’s hierarchy have the appetite for that amount of money being spent this month.

Meanwhile, Walker has suggested that they could look to bring in a big name signing on a loan deal this month. Evan Ferguson of Brighton has been mentioned previously and Brighton are looking to loan the player out to get him game time. Although that deal wouldn’t make much sense as the club would effectively be developing other team’s players for them.

Andy Walker’s view

The former Hoops forward said it wouldn’t surprise him at all if the club did go down this route. Speaking to the Go Radio Football Show, the pundit said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Celtic brought in a big name player on loan – someone that we are all familiar with. Someone who has a good reputation, a good pedigree. Whether it’s for the long-term that remains to be seen.”

Whatever Celtic do in this window, it has to be the right move. Kyogo was a very important piece in the footballing jigsaw for a number of years and we have to replace his goals and movement too. The club could possibly have left themselves in a position by letting Furuhashi leave before his replacement was in the door, so they will have to move fast too, to avoid the possibility of it having a major affect on the team.
