UEFA’s Conference League social team gave us a wee midweek treat, posting a highlight reel of Nygren on fire against Fenerbahçe last season. A hat-trick, no less, and every one of them left-footed beauty. It really is magic stuff.
If you’re wondering how the Swedish winger ended up on Celtic’s radar, look no further than that night. Nygren was electric for Nordsjaelland all campaign, but those three goals were a statement that made other clubs take notice, including Celtic, who appear to be in the box-seat to secure his signing.
Nygren may only be only 23, but there’s a maturity to his game, clever runs, delicious finishes, and a gallusness you simply can’t teach.

No surprise then that Celtic are close to getting the deal over the line. In fact, he’s expected to be unveiled any day now, and it’s fair to say the support is getting excited at the thought of seeing him in a Brendan Rodgers team next season.
We’ve seen plenty of highlight reels before of course, but there’s something about this one. There’s composure and a bit of bona fide class. You can see what Brendan Rodgers sees someone who can slot into the front line and make things happen.
Seven goals and a barrel-load of assists in Europe last season speaks volumes. This isn’t a punt, as some of our transfer business has been in recent years. This is a player with proper pedigree.
And here’s the amazing bit about this transfer, it’s only going to set Celtic back somewhere in the region £1.7 million.

That’s exceptional value in today’s transfer market, and it’s not the sort of fee Nordsjaelland are in the habit of selling for, double figure millions is perhaps more the norm for a team who have a genuine player trading model.
For a guy who’s done it on the European stage, It’s the sort of savvy move that could pay off for Celtic when the Champions League nights come around, starting with that playoff round at the tail end of August.
That’s normally a stressful time for any Celtic fan, but with Nygren on the books you’d think we’ve got the sort of player who can pick a lock when it’s required.
Of course, he still must prove it in the Hoops. No one’s getting carried away, well maybe a wee bit I’ll admit. But as first impressions go, it’s not bad at all.

For now, we’ve only got the clips to drool over, but it won’t be long before we see him under the lights at Celtic Park. If those left-foot rockets are anything to go by, the North Curve might have a new song to compose before too long.
