PANAMA CITY – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Club Atlético Independiente earning a 1-nil win against Deportivo Saprissa in Group C on Wednesday at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.

Gustavo Herrera nearly found the opener for Saprissa in the 16’, but his powerful shot from close range was denied by a save from CAI goalkeeper Álex Rodríguez.

Rodríguez pulled off another key save for CAI in the 34’ to keep the visitors scoreless, this time saving a right-footed attempt from Herrera from the left end of the box.

Ángel Valverde had a good look for the home side in the 43’ with a free kick that was just wide of the top right corner.

Ángel Caicedo struck the winner for CAI in the 83’ with a fantastic free kick goal to the top left corner.

Rodríguez had a standout performance in goal for the Panamanian side, with posting four saves enroute to recording a clean sheet.

Both sides will conclude their Group Stage participation next Tuesday in search of a top two finish in Group C. CAI will visit CS Cartaginés, while Deportivo Saprissa will host FC Motagua.
