According to TBR Football, Rangers and Burnley are also interested in the 23-year-old ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Poku has made a bright start to the League One season, contributing 10 goals and five assists from 15 appearances in the third tier.

This has led to speculation over his future as we approach the winter market midway through the term.

Poku’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, leading to further scrutiny over his immediate future with the Posh.

Southampton and Ipswich are the latest clubs to join the race to potentially sign Poku.

It was initially reported by Rangers News that the Glasgow giants sent scouts to watch the Ghana international perform last weekend.

This has been corroborated by TBR Football, who have also linked Burnley with a move to sign the exciting attacker.

They have also reported that Southampton and Ipswich are chasing his signature, as his contract continues to wind down.

The Saints previously signed promising youngster Ronnie Edwards from the League One side earlier this year during the summer transfer market, and may now come back in for Poku in 2025.

Alan Nixon previously reported in October that Blackburn Rovers are also keeping tabs on the player.

It remains to be seen whether a deal can be found to sign Poku in January, or if Peterborough will hold on until the end of the campaign and let him leave as a free agent in the summer.

Given the number of potential suitors, it seems likely that the third division side will at least have their resolve tested by an offer from somewhere.

Regardless, due to the player’s age, a fee will still need to be paid to Peterborough if he moves in the summer, either through a deal with the club or to be decided by an independent tribunal, despite him being a free agent at the end of the season.

Kwame Poku’s contract situation

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that a club record contract offer has been given to Poku in order to try to convince him to stay.

However, he has resigned himself to the fact that the 23-year-old is more likely to depart in 2025 than commit his future to the team.

"There are many things a tribunal takes into account when setting a transfer fee,” said MacAnthony, via the Hard Truth podcast.

“The offers we have already had are part of that as are his appearances, his goals, the contract offer we have made him and what we have paid out in transfer fees ourselves so we will still get millions and millions for him.

"We did make him a club record offer, but he knows it’s time for him to go to the next level.

“We hope he wins promotion with us first.

"Kwame probably won’t go to the Premier League straight away, but he will get a high-end Championship club.

“He will be a Premier League star in the future and that next move will probably cost £30 million.”

Kwame Poku can still power Peterborough to the Championship

Poku has been excellent for Peterborough so far this season, and it is no surprise that he’s attracting such interest.

Peterborough are stuck in a difficult situation, and the nature of his contract situation means they are best off letting him go in the summer and receiving whatever fee they can get out of it.

It would have to take a substantial offer from someone in January to persuade them otherwise, as Poku can power them to promotion if he can keep up this form.

A move to the Premier League would be a massive step up, but Ipswich and Southampton are also at risk of relegation, so there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding his future, if he does wait until the summer to move.
