According to Alan Nixon, the Clarets are keen to trim down their squad this winter and have identified both centre-backs as players that they can sell.

It has also been reported in Swedish outlet Expressen that Hjalmar is attracting interest from a number of clubs.

It has been claimed that the likes of QPR, Stoke City and Rangers are all eyeing the 26-year-old on loan, with Italian sides Sampdoria and Empoli also in the mix.

Middlesbrough have also been linked in the report, however The Northern Echo claim that the Swede is not on Michael Carrick's radar at this moment in time.

Burnley are looking to offload players this January in order to make room in their squad, and have decided that both Ekdal and Delcroix can depart for the right offer.

Ekdal has struggled for minutes under Parker due to injury issues, and he has now been deemed surplus to requirements due to a numbe of defenders being ahead of him in the pecking order.

This has led to interest from a number of clubs, including Championship rivals QPR and Stoke.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee it will take to convince Burnley to sell, or if a loan move will be agreed instead.

The Clarets will be hoping to find a solution before the 3 February transfer deadline, with nothing concrete on the cards just yet.

Hjalmar Ekdal and Hannes Delcroix’s Burnley stints have been underwhelming

Delcroix joined Burnley in August 2023 as one of many Vincent Kompany signings from Belgium following the club’s promotion to the Premier League, but was unable to cement himself as a regular part of the team in the top flight.

The Belgian made just 12 appearances last season, with the Clarets suffering relegation back to the Championship, and he has not featured in the second tier under Parker.

Ekdal has been with the Lancashire outfit since January 2023, arriving from Djurgardens halfway through a promotion-winning season, but he has made a total of just 17 appearances in the league in his two years at Turf Moor.

Ekdal and Delcroix moves would be good business for Burnley

Burnley need to cut players from their bloated squad because they are taking up resources that could be used elsewhere.

Ekdal and Delcroix just haven’t been able to cut it at Turf Moor, and now would be as good a time as any to find buyers for them.

Cutting their wages from the books would save money, while also opening up spots in the squad for players Parker may actually want to use.

If they can generate some transfer fees for them as well, then that could be a very valuable use of the winter market.
