In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
My match of the day is the Ruhrderby between Bochum and Borussia Dortmund. With Schalke once again gone from the Bundesliga, this is the big derby in Ruhrpott. It is also a game that Dortmund struggled with last season and after exercising the ghosts last matchday against Köln at home, the Black and Yellows will want to set the record straight against their junior rivals.
I can’t look beyond Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen. Fresh off a gruelling clash with RB Leipzig, Xabi Alonso’s hopeful side face back-to-back tests as they make the trip to Borussia Park in what will most likely be labelled a “derby” by only one set of fans. Antipathy from the home support aside, I think this should be a really fun game between two much-improved teams. Leverkusen should bag the three points but it won’t be easy for them.
Scores after MD1: Manu – 6, Stefan – 11
