Manchester United had to rally back from being a goal down on two separate occasions against Premier League bottom club Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The Red Devils eventually emerged 4-2 victors with captain Bruno Fernandes leading from the front as the hosts played a more possession-based approach instead of Erik ten Hag’s usual chaos ball.

The Portuguese has once again been a revelation, despite a difficult campaign for the club with the 29-year-old currently the top-scorer with 15 goals and has the most assists with 11.

His goal against the Blades meant he has now scored in five successive matches for the first time since joining the club while he has also created 99 chances in the Premier League this season, the most among all players.

Bruno, the magician

Not only in England, but Fernandes also tops the chances created chart all across Europe. Yet pundits and experts claim Martin Odegaard and Kevin de Bruyne are better than the Portuguese! He remains underrated even among the fanbase.

The club captain inspires everyone around him not only in terms of on-field achievements but also in the manner he conducts himself off the pitch.

Staying away from the spotlight, willing to help everyone as seen from his delightful social media interactions with younger players, truly puts the Portugal international apart.

His availability record remains stellar with the player never missing a game for the Red Devils through injury. This season, the Dutch manager has revealed many times during press conferences that Fernandes is an injury doubt.

But the 29-year-old has always pulled through. The Sheffield game was the most recent example. The attacking midfielder had broken his hand during the nerve-wracking FA Cup semi-final win against Coventry City.

Ten Hag said he was a huge doubt but the player insisted on starting against Chris Wilder’s team according to The Times and he ended up with two goals and an assist.

What a player!

“Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning performance against Sheffield United appears even more remarkable given that he was playing with a broken hand.

“Erik ten Hag revealed on Tuesday that Fernandes was a doubt for the match at Old Trafford after injuring his hand in a fall during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City three days before.

“Fernandes played the entirety of the fixture, however, and was one of the star performers in the 4-2 home win, scoring twice and setting up the final goal, which was scored by Rasmus Hojlund.

“It is understood that Fernandes broke his right hand during the match against Coventry but still insisted on playing against Sheffield United.”

Remarkable from the skipper and the club are truly lucky to have signed such a superstar. He is the best post-Sir Alex Ferguson signing by a country mile.

Hopefully, he can carry on in the same vein and ensure a decent end to a disappointing campaign and ensure further silverware in the form of the FA Cup come May.
