Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted to being very frustrated by his side’s inconsistent performances, following their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
United were impressive from start to finish to ensure they got a share of the spoils at Anfield.
Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock moments after the break with an excellent finish into the roof of the net. United’s lead didn’t last too long as Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scored within 10 minutes of each other to give the hosts the lead.
It seemed like United were headed for a fifth consecutive loss across all competitions but Amad Diallo had other ideas. The Ivorian made a well-timed run into the box to convert a cross from Alejandro Garnacho.
One of the other United players who was brilliant was Bruno Fernandes.
In addition to his assist for Martinez’s goal, the United skipper was sensational in the midfield, especially in the final 30 minutes when the game was delicately balanced.
After the final whistle, Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports and gave his verdict on the match. He also had his say on United’s woes this season, especially their inconsistency.
He said, “We have been criticised and fairly. Our position in the table says it all, we have lost too many points. Even today we can’t be happy with a point.”
“We need the points and we could’ve won the game at the end, but it’s a fair result. Both teams played good football.”
“I’m pretty upset. If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can’t we do this everywhere? It frustrates me. Also, finally, I did a proper performance. We said we need much more from ourselves to get more from this season.”
“Being 2-1 [down] then scoring it’s good to get a point but we need more. Now we have an FA Cup tie at Arsenal and it is going to be very tough but we want to get to the final again.”
The Portugal international added, “We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we put in a real effort to the game, playing with some passion and heart is what is going to give you something from the game.”
“You have to put in effort and that’s why we took something from today.”
“It can’t stop here, We have to bring this frustration to the next game to understand this has to be the level.”
Fernandes emphasised that if he and his teammates can do it at Anfield, then they can beat any other team anywhere.
