The Gas are licking their wounds after suffering relegation to League Two this past season.

Former Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has returned to his former club, tasked with leading the club straight back to the third tier next term, and is preparing to lead the club into their first summer transfer window with him at the helm since 2018.

As such, it's expected to be a busy few months of ins and outs at the Memorial Stadium, as Rovers prepare for life back in the fourth tier of English football for the first time since 2022.

As per a report from BristolLive on Thursday, Bristol Rovers are among a host of clubs weighing up a move for Rotherham United centre-forward, Jonson Clarke-Harris.

It's believed that the 30-year-old will be allowed to leave the Millers this summer if the club receive a significant enough fee, just 12 months after signing for them from Peterborough United.

As such, a potential reunion appears to be on the cards, as Rotherham's number nine spent 18 months at the Memorial Stadium between January 2019-August 2020.

Harris scored 27 times in 52 total appearances during his stint with Rovers, becoming a popular figure among Gasheads, before departing for Peterborough in the summer of 2020.

The Millers forward has one-year remaining on his contract at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Clarke-Harris has proven himself to be a top-quality marksman at League One level over the last few years.

Despite only hitting seven in 29 league appearances for Rotherham last season, the Jamaica international bagged nine in 35 for Peterborough in 2023/24 after scoring 27 times in the third tier in the 2022/23 campaign.

In his first two seasons with Posh, the striker scored 31 times in 45 League One outings in 2020/21, before firing home 12 times in 41 Championship appearances during the 2021/22 season.

Only turning 31 in July, Clarke-Harris should still have a number of good years ahead of him, especially if he takes the drop down to League Two level with Bristol Rovers next season.

With Gatlin O'Donkor back at his parent club Oxford United, and with veteran centre-forward Chris Martin not expected to be fit until autumn at the earliest and with a contract decision hanging over his head, Rovers could really do with bolstering their strike options this summer.

It would also put right the transfer saga of 2023, in which he looked set to rejoin Bristol Rovers on what would have been a club-record £800,000 deal, only for the transfer to fall through at the last minute due to an admin issue.

Clarke-Harris could instantly become one of the top centre-forwards in League Two should he link back up with his former employers this summer, and would significantly bolster Rovers' promotion chances.
