Liverpool are reportedly in the market for Rayan Cherki. That’s the line from Le Parisien and the like - the Reds have made an approach to see what a move would take.
It also appears that Liverpool have a really good chance of making it happen, too. Cherki would cost around £19m in what feels like a bargain signing for someone. Maybe that’s the Reds.
What’s certain, though, is that Cherki is off. He confirmed that in the mixed zone after Lyon’s final game of the season this weekend, per Fabrizio Romano (among others).
“Thanks to OL, the coach, the staff, the president, my teammates and all people at the club,” said Cherki. This is a player who has represented Lyon for the final time and know she’s on the move.
Liverpool, then, have a decision to make. It’s unlikely that Cherki or Lyon will want this one to rumble on throughout the summer - it’s best for both that things are sorted quickly.
And so no one can wait around if they want to sign Cherki. Liverpool would need to act reasonably quickly to get the deal done but the player’s open admission that he’s off provides them the opportunity to do just that.
This is a routine transfer and if Liverpool do want Cherki, we’re certain they can get him.
