The France U21s squad has been hit with the latest setback in its burgeoning injury crisis after the French Football Federation confirmed that Georginio Rutter (22) was forced to withdraw from the team.

The Federation announced that the Brighton & Hove Albion striker who joined the Premier League side from Leeds United over the summer has suffered an injury and will be unable to take part in the Espoirs’ upcoming EURO 2025 qualifiers against Cyprus and Austria.

The new head coach for the France U21s, Gérald Baticle, has been hit with a series of withdrawals during this international break after Mathys Tel, Rayan Cherki, Désiré Doué, and Nathan Zézé all dropped out of the squad.

Baticle was previously Thierry Henry’s assistant during the former Arsenal striker’s stint in charge of the Espoirs. After Henry quit the role in August following the Olympic final defeat to Spain, he recommended the FFF promoted Baticle to be his successor.
