Sky Sports have now reported on Saturday morning that Newcastle United are now in talks to try and reach a compromise transfer fee agreement on Joao Pedro.
A deal that both parties can agree to.
Joao Pedro was one of three players that Newcastle United have seen bids turned down for (see below) in recent days.
Sky Sports are reporting that the opening bid by Newcastle United was for a total of £50m, with £45m guaranteed and £5m in potential future add-ons.
The broadcaster saying their information is that Brighton are ideally looking for £60m.
Brighton are continuing their clear recruitment policy of buying and selling on a significant scale.
Amongst the players Brighton have already signing this summer is teenage forward Charalampos Kostoulas for over £30m.
It appears all but certain that the buy and sell policy will continue with Joao Pedro (who cost Brighton £30m two years ago from Watford) leaving this summer at a significant profit, to pay for the likes of Kostoulas and other new young signings.
Brazil international Joao Pedro is still only 23 himself and very much within the age range of the clear Newcastle United recruitment strategy.
As well as being a quality player, another big positive with Joao Pedro is that he can play across the forward line and as an attacking midfielder. So as well as playing through the middle if necessary, Joao Pedro can also play alongside the United centre-forward. If a deal can be agreed, then Pedro looking set to play on the right in Eddie Howe’s new look first choice eleven, with Jacob Murphy as back up.
The Mag report – 27 June 2025:
‘Newcastle United have now seen bids for three players turned down.
A total of £120m offered for the trio.
An exclusive from The Times has now reported that after seeing an offer of £45m knocked back for Anthony Elanga by Nottingham Forest, two other bids have also been turned down.
The exclusive reports that a £50m offer was made for Joao Pedro but Brighton have said no to that.
Whilst a bid of £25m has also been made for James Trafford but the same reply from Burnley, as it was from Brighton and Forest for the other two targets.
After making the three offers totalling £120m in recent days, it now remains to be seen if Newcastle United go back in with improved bids for one or more of Eddie Howe’s summer targets.
The Times says that their information is that Burnley are insisting on £30m+ for their number one goalkeeper.
Elsewhere it has been reported that Nottingham Forest are wanting £60m for Anthony Elanga but allegedly don’t want to sell him, whilst a similar £60m Brighton valuation has been claimed on Joao Pedro.
