Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan has admitted he is open to leaving the club this summer, amidst suggestions he could be on the move to Manchester United.

United are expected to strengthen their defensive ranks and could target a left-wing-back to offer competition and cover for Patrick Dorgu.

After an extremely poor 2024/25 season in which they finished a lowly 15th place in the Premier League, United are bracing for a busy summer transfer window in a bid to bounce back and be competitive next term.

Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Estupinan is of interest to the Red Devils.

The report claimed that United had already made an enquiry for Estupinan, who is valued at around €45 million (£37.9m).

Since joining Brighton in 2022, the Ecuador international has established himself as a crucial contributor, helping the team achieve top-half finishes in two of the last three campaigns.

Before making the move to the Amex, Estupinan was a key figure in the Villarreal side that clinched the Europa League title in 2021 by defeating United. He also played an important role in the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals under Unai Emery.

He has made 104 appearances for the Seagulls, registering five goals and 14 assists in that period. Last season, he played 36 times across all competitions. He managed one goal and one assist.

Estupinan lined up for Ecuador yesterday as the South American side secured World Cup qualification with a goalless draw against Peru.

After the final whistle, he was asked about the rumours linking him to United.

He answered [as quoted by Sussex World], “The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning. But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement.”

“The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing. The club have understood this.”

“I’ve spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision.”

“Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go.”

Estupinan’s contract with Brighton runs until June 2027.
