Brentford proceed to the quarter-finals of the London Senior Cup after a 5-1 win over Athletic Newham on Tuesday night at Hanwell Town Football Club.

The young Bees put in a strong second half display fighting back from a first half Newham goal to win the game. Kerron Samuels and Ethan Laidlaw completed the comeback just 10 minutes into the second half with Matas Klimas and a Caleb Redhead double extending the side’s lead.

The hosts on the night played a back three which consisted of Kerron Samuels, Chanse Headman and Caelan Avenell with Vonnte Williams and Max Dickov utilised as wing-backs. Andre Grey partnered Beaux Booth in the central midfield positions whilst Kyreece Lisbie, Ethan Laidlaw and Caleb Redhead formed a front three.

Brentford started the game well with a high tempo, but it was the visiting side who had the first chance of the game.

Victor Ferrini won the ball deep into the Brentford half and attempted a lob over Marley Tavaziva who was off his line, but his effort was gathered well by the Bees keeper.

Newham were rewarded for their early chances when they took the lead on 13 minutes after Alex Kozak found the top right corner with an excellent strike from outside the box.

The visitors could have doubled their lead moments later when Aboul Khamis broke through, but Tavaziva was there to make a smart save for Brentford.

Neil MacFarlane’s side grew into the game and began dominating the ball, Lisbie had a good chance to equalise on 20 minutes but his shot from a Dickov pass went over.

Lisbie was within the action a few minutes later this time crossing the ball towards trialist, Redhead but the striker’s header went wide of the post.

DIckov was finding a lot of space on the right flank and was involved in another Brentford chance just after the half hour mark.

The wing-back picked out a great pass into the path of Redhead but the striker dragged his shot wide.

Dickov delivered another great cross from the right-side moments later, this time finding Laidlaw but the wingers shot was saved well by the Newham keeper.

The young Bees flew out of the traps in the second half and got themselves ahead within 10 minutes of the second period.

The first goal came from a corner kick which landed in the path of Samuels who smashed home from close range at the second time of asking.

Brentford then received a penalty on 55 minutes after Redhead was brought down inside the box with Laidlaw showing composure to tuck his spot kick away.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second half as they edged closer to a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Brentford’s control allowed MacFarlane to introduce substitutes to the game including Conor McManus, who made his return to play after a lengthy period on the sidelines due to an injury.

Klimas was another player who was brought into the game, and it was the Under-18s defender who extended Brentford’s lead.

The centre-back drove forward with the ball before picking out the top right corner with a great strike from outside the box.

Redhead got a deserved goal sealing the win for Brentford after getting on the end of a cross from Booth.

Redhead scored another before the full-time whistle was blown wrapping up a good day at the office for MacFarlane’s side.
