‘For those that have been with me and always with me, let's enjoy the journey. For those I need to convince – I'll see you here in May.’

Those were Brendan Rodgers’ words in June 2023 on the day he was officially unveiled as Celtic manager.

There was no defiance in the delivery, merely an honest acknowledgment from the Irishman that his re-appointment did not garner the universal welcome that was the case back in 2016 when he first arrived at the club.

It also crystallised the confidence he has in his own ability, with an impressive CV to back that up, and a belief that he was the right man for the job of delivering more trophies to Celtic Park.

Fast forward to May 2024, and the Celtic supporters gathered outside Paradise, not once but twice to celebrate silverware success in the shape of the Premiership title and the Scottish Cup.

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side had secured the Double, and the manager had added two more trophies to the seven he won during his previous spell in charge.

Reflecting on the success of the season, he told the Celtic View: “Professionally for me, every season in my life has been a challenge since I have been a coach.

"I wasn’t a big name player so I’d never had that protection of being that, so nothing has ever come easy for me in my coaching and professional life.

'This season was no different. There were other different challenges within that, but that’s where I always feel I’m at my best, when the challenge is there and the pressure is on, then that’s something I enjoy proving the point.'

“So from a professional perspective, I was really pleased that we grew as the season went on because that’s what is important – coming in, picking up a group of players and convincing them to work how we want to work, and then seeing that develop and grow as the season goes on.

"To then finish with a Double was absolutely brilliant, and everyone is now away into the summer really proud of their club, and that’s what you always want.

“I had a really great time at Leicester – good people, a fantastic club, and we created history there – but Joe Hart said it, and he was right – Celtic is about a feeling and that was what we wanted coming back, from a personal perspective – me and all my family, and we’ve been able to feel that since we’ve been back.

“So, for me, I’m very lucky to manage such an amazing club and I want to be here for as long as I can and bring as much success as I can.”

Brendan Rodgers enjoyed unprecedented success during his first spell as Celtic manager – back-to-back domestic Trebles, including the historic Invincible Treble season of 2016/17 – so he knows what it takes to win trophies. It is the Celtic Way.

“Whatever the objectives are, you always have to win here,” he explained, “but Celtic’s always a club that’s synonymous with its style of football as well, so we always want to win in the best possible way that we can and, primarily, that’s what we set out to do.

“The late goals and late wins are really a culmination of all the work the players have put in every single day, which is why they got their rewards at the end of the season.

“But we also know as well, and it’s been mentioned many times – Big Billy talking about Celtic really being this fairy tale club and the numbers of late winners that we get at this club – it’s because of that mentality, that culture which is ingrained and also the support we get from the supporters in the stands. That’s what gives us the push and that ability to keep going.”
