Who would've thought Bremen would make a comeback in the Bundesliga and challenge for the European places? After winning just once in the opening 10 games of 2025, Bremen went on to win 5 games out of 8 since then!
The challenge on matchday 32: Union Berlin, who went on a similar path to Bremen in 2025. Find out how the two sides performed in this match down below:
Bremen started off intensely: in the 2nd minute of the game, Bremen's Oliver Burke, soon to be a Union Berlin player, passed the ball to Marvin Duksch who hit the post - but his teammate Jens Stage was there for the rebound and put Bremen in front!
In the 15th minute it was Stage again, this time thanks to a nice shot from the edge of the box. Stage has played a great season so far and scored his 8th and 9th goal of the campaign.
Coach Ole Werner has re-found the strengths of his side; players like Mitchell Weiser and Felix Agu are back to their best and the timing couldn't be better for die Werderaner.
In the 38th minute however, Union Berlin got one goal back thanks to Tom Rothe who converted a cross by captain Trimmel. Half time score: 1-2 to Bremen.
Union Berlin were able to shake off Bremen's dominance of the 1st half and increased the pressure on them in the 2nd half. Steffen Baumgart's team started to show why they are unbeaten in 7 games.
Striker Andrej Ilić missed a great chance in the 68th minute: his shot from the edge of the 5-yard box missed the goal by about 30 centimeters!
The game started to get more heated with both sides getting into more and more unnecessary discussions. Bremen were able to hold onto their lead - at least until the 84th minute.
László Bénes delivered the earned equaliser for Union Berlin with Tom Rothe making the assist. Bremen tried to get the winner in the last minutes and even brought on Justin Njinmah and Keke Topp for two defenders, but the game ended in a deserved 2-2 draw.
