Brazil were beaten finalists three years ago, losing to Argentina at the Maracana, and they will look to regain their crown at this summer’s tournament in the United States.

However, Casemiro will not be involved, after he was left out of the 23-man squad named by Brazil boss Dorival Jr on Friday.

The 32-year-old’s performances for Manchester United have come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with Casemiro enduring a particularly painful night when filling in at centre-back against Crystal Palace.

Analysing that display after the match, Jamie Carragher claimed that Casemiro was not longer good enough to play in the Premier League, and needed to secure a move to the MLS or Saudi Pro League this summer.

Casemiro was named Brazil captain for a friendly against Morocco last year but, after making 75 caps for his country, it remains to be seen whether he will get the chance to add to that tally.

Jesus has also missed out on the Copa America squad, having fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal since returning from injury. He has scored just one goal in all competitions in 2024.

There is no place for Richarlison either, though the Brazil boss revealed that is due to an injury concern.

Dorival Jr: “Richarlison has not been called up for the Copa América also due to fresh injury he has suffered. “He’s not available, he had a new injury and this is why he’s not in the list.”

Arsenal duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes do make the cut, along with midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta, who will likely continued to be linked with big-money summer moves should they impress at the tournament.

Brazil get their campaign up and running on June 25 against Costa Rica, before facing Paraguay and Colombia.
