Better late than ever. Borussia Dortmund finally conquered their first win of 2025, and making it on a Champions League night made matters even more special. The Black-and-Yellows beat the Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk by 3-1 in a good display in front of the Yellow Wall, trying to impress the new manager, Niko Kovač.
The first half was very promising, especially with the striker duo Serhou Guirassy and Maxi Beier working well together. Dortmund dominated possession and managed the home-field advantage worth it, with Guirassy scoring twice. The second half, however, started on the wrong foot with a Gregor Kobel mistake that led to Shakhtar's goal. Still, the players were resilient and killed the match with a beautiful chip goal from Bensebaini and a gorgeous assist from Gio Reyna.
BVB finished the League Phase with 15 points in total, placing in tenth overall. The Black-and-Yellows will have to play the playoff-knockout stage to guarantee a spot in the round of 16. Here are the player ratings for the 3-1 win against Shakhtar Donetsk:
