Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed the termination of former squad planner Sven Mislintat’s contract. The Bundesliga outfit had been negotiating the matter of Mislintat’s severance pay since his sacking last winter. At present, there is no reliable information about how much Mislintat will receive or where the former German footballing functionary might be headed next.

Mislintat played an important role in building the VfB Stuttgart side that was eventually promoted back to the German top flight ahead of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign. He then left to work as technical director at Ajax Amsterdam in 2023 before returning to BVB in 2024. Mislintat held the titles of squad planner, technical director, and lead scout at Dortmund between May 2024 and February 2025.

Mislintat’s next move remains unclear. The 53-year-old once enjoyed a favorable reputation for his scouting work at Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Arsenal. The fact that his last two professional administrative appointments lasted less than a full calendar year nevertheless cast something of a shadow on his career.

A contract termination does usually mean that a footballing professional has found another job, but in this case it was merely the matter of severance pay holding up the dissolution of Mislintat’s working papers.
