Borussia Dortmund defender lauds Real Madrid’s superiority – ‘Always difficult to play against them’ | OneFootball

As Real Madrid prepare for their quarterfinal clash in the FIFA Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund defender Yan Couto admitted just how big the challenge will be for his side.

Despite Dortmund’s positive run in the tournament so far, it is clear they know Real Madrid are the favourites. “We’re having a good tournament and improving with every game,” Couto said.

“But it’s going to be very difficult against Madrid. We have to keep fighting and dreaming if we want to achieve something big.”

“We have everything we need to put in a good performance against Madrid,” he added.

Real Madrid, led by Xabi Alonso, have looked strong throughout the competition and have the experience and star power to dominate.

Their squad depth and quality in every position make them one of the best teams in the world. Dortmund will need more than just hard work to stop Madrid, especially with players like Gonzalo Garcia and Jude Bellingham looking sharp and hungry for goals.

Couto praised Alonso as he acknowledged the excellent job he’s done. “Xabi is a great coach. He deserves a lot of credit for his two years at Leverkusen.

“In one year, he won everything, and in the other he finished as runner-up. This is just the start of his work,” Couto admitted, highlighting the respect Madrid’s coach commands.

He also made it clear that Madrid’s squad is even stronger now. “The same players remain, but with more signings.

“They are one of the best teams in the world. We want to study them well. It’s always difficult to play against them,” Couto said, showing he understands the massive task ahead for Dortmund.

With Madrid’s confidence high and their key players in top form, the Spanish giants look set to prove why they are favourites to lift the trophy.
