Borré and Matanovic have managed to establish themselves in the first team. Alidou, Foti and Onguéné meanwhile are having a tougher time of things in Cologne, Hanover and Geneva.
Rafael Santos Borré, who has been loaned by Eintracht to Werder Bremen, has established himself as a first-teamer up north and played a considerable role in Werder currently sitting 12th in the league. Since the number 19 became a regular in the starting line-up three matches ago, the Green-and-Whites have scored two goals in each game and picked up five of a possible nine points. In the last match before the international break, which ended up a 2-2 draw against Frankfurt, Borré scored to make it 2-0 and get his third goal overall for Bremen.
Faride Alidou is also out on loan at another Bundesliga club, but his current team – 1. FC Köln – are mired in the relegation zone and sit 17th in the table.
Alidou has primarily been used as a substitute in Cologne thus far. “Faride for me is someone who needs to establish himself here first of all and also make up ground in terms of physical fitness,” said FC coach Steffen Baumgart in a recent press conference. “I’ve spoken to him about the situation and he took on board what I had to say.”
Igor Matanovic is having a more enjoyable time of things in the second tier with Karlsruher SC.
The 20-year-old was not a first-choice starter when he arrived, but things had begun to change by October. After five appearances as a substitute and just two in the starting XI, the German-born Croat has started four matches in a row since the 3-0 win over FC Schalke 04. In that home victory, the attacker recorded both a goal and an assist, having failed to get on the scoresheet throughout the 2022/23 season.
The following week, the number nine scored again, this time in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of St. Pauli. KSC are currently 15th after 13 matchdays.
Home-grown prospect Antonio Foti is out on loan for the second season in a row with Hannover 96. The midfielder made 12 first-team appearances last term and is currently up to six this time around in all competitions, each of them as a substitute. Hannover are fourth in the league at the present time.
Injuries have meant that Jérôme Onguéné’s game-time at Servette FC has been modest thus far. The 25-year-old has made two out of a possible 14 appearances in the Super League, one of them in the starting line-up. Servette are currently fourth in the Swiss top flight.
