Bolton have overhauled their options between the sticks this summer.
Bolton Wanderers have Swansea City goalkeeper Nathan Broome in their sights as they look to stock up on their shot-stopping reserves.
Nathan Baxter and Luke Southwood leaving the Toughsheet Community Stadium this summer guaranteed that a change in the goalkeeping department would be made by Steven Schumacher this summer.
Baxter left as a free agent, and one of the boss' early signings, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, was a direct replacement for him. That was then eventually followed by Southwood's departure to Bristol Rovers.
Schumacher wants to bring in a further two keepers, as per The Bolton News; one to push the Chelsea loanee and another to act as a reserve option.
Broome is one of the options that they are reportedly looking at.
According to Alan Nixon, Swansea's young glovesman has reportedly impressed those at the Lancashire club.
The former Manchester City youth team player has had two spells in League Two in his short career. More latterly, the 23-year-old joined Port Vale in the last winter window and acted as a deputee to veteran shot-stopper Ben Amos in their promotion-winning campaign that will see them take on Bolton twice next season.
It has also been stated by Nixon and The Bolton News that former Salford City man Jamie Jones has been training with Wanderers this pre-season, although the 36-year-old has not travelled with Schumacher and his team to Spain for their pre-season camp.
Football League World understands that David Harrington of Fleetwood Town is another option that they are looking at, although they will face plenty of competition for his signature, including from the Championship.
Bolton's head coach revealed that the reason behind Southwood's departure, which opened up space for further goalkeeping additions, was due to a difference in game-time expectations. Schumacher couldn't guarantee him regular minutes, and so he wanted a move away from the club.
It's been confirmed to The Bolton News that the plan is for Sharman-Lowe to be his first choice between the sticks. The former Doncaster Rovers keeper, who helped them pip Vale to the League Two title last time out, felt a natural successor to the goalkeeping throne at the Toughsheet. That will only be further cemented if someone like Broome also arrives.
His time in the lowest division in the EFL hasn't suggested that he's necessarily ready to make the step up and compete for a starting spot in League One, which then makes the need to have that third option, an experienced one at that, more vital.
Bolton let in 70 goals last term, more than any other season since they were relegated from the Championship in 2019. The keepers weren't solely to blame for that, but it's certainly an area that rightly needed to be torn up and done over.
