Steven Schumacher is looking forward to a summer rebuild of the squad that he has barely been able to make his own since arriving at the Toughseet Community Stadium at the end of January.

Following their 4-2 loss to Lincoln City which effectively ended their chances of making this season's League One play-offs, the thought of getting to work and shaping the team the way that he wants was immediately on the manager's mind.

With the resources that Bolton have, and the pedigree of the manager, who won the third tier the last time he had a full season at the helm of one of its clubs, a bounce-back campaign next time out is going to be required.

It'll be a much different team in the 2025/26 term than the one that Schumacher has had to work with so far. Long-standing members of the squad Ricardo Santos and Gethin Jones will leave Wanderers this summer when their contracts expire.

Also on the list of free agent departees are goalkeepers Nathan Baxter, who started 26 times for Bolton in the league this season, and Joel Coleman - FLW exclusively revealed recently that Watford are keen on the former to bolster their depth in-between the sticks at Vicarage Road.

Wanderers have a potential plan of action to improve this area of the pitch though, with one of this season's play-off standouts being targeted.

Bolton Wanderers eyeing move for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman

Goodman, 21, has been on loan at AFC Wimbledon this season and has caught the national eye in the post-season thanks to his heroic performances for the Wombles to help them get past Notts County in the semi-final.

Bolton, according to the South London Press, are targeting the Palace youngster for another loan move this summer.

The FA Cup winners will be willing to let Goodman go and develop some place else again next season, but Wanderers won't be the only outfit vying for the six-foot-four shot-stopper's signature.

His astounding showings in the play-offs are no purple patch. League Two's Goalkeeper of the Season kept a division-high 21 clean sheets this season in 46 regular season appearances, and added another two to that tally against Stuart Maynard's side.

According to FotMob, he has prevented 4.15 goals from going in league games this term, based on the quality of shots he has faced.

Owen Goodman is a no-brainer transfer option for Bolton Wanderers

You will struggle to find many League One outfits next season who wouldn't like to have an Owen Goodman in net: a more than reliable shot-stopper who will get you out of more trouble than he will put you in.

He's the type of goalkeeper that will win you points, and when you've got the hopes and dreams that Bolton do, someone like that between the sticks is a necessity.

The 21-year-old isn't perfect. His distribution is by no means poor, but there is room for improvement. By no means should that discount him from a move like this, because Goodman's goalkeeping fundamentals are simply that good.
