The new season in Norway has only just begun, and Bodo/Glimt started their league defence on the right note, winning their first two fixtures over Bryne and HamKam. They also slaughtered Innstranden by eight unanswered goals in the opening round of the domestic cup.
As for their Europa League campaign, the Norwegian champions were unlucky to finish 9th in the group stage, just missing out on a direct spot in the Round of 16. Nevertheless, they made up for it by beating Twente 6-4 on aggregate in the play-off round, before making short work of Olympiakos and setting up a meeting with the Italian capital side.
The Biancocelesti started their campaign on a brilliant note, but their form has declined in recent months, as illustrated by their horrific 0-5 defeat to Bologna just before the international break. Lazio then settled for a draw at home against Torino, but returned to winning ways with a morale-boosting victory over Atalanta last Sunday that put them sixth in the table, ahead of Roma.
After finishing the group-stage campaign on top of the 36-team league, it’s difficult to overlook the Aquile when listing the favorites to clinch the Europa League this season, even though Viktoria Plzen made them sweat for a spot in the Final Eight. Alessio Romagnoli’s winner eventually earned them a 3-2 win on aggregate over the Czech side.
