Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona to sign 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu according to David Ornstein.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market having already signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from neighbours Fulham, and an official announcement is expected this week for Omari Kellyman, who is set to complete his £19m move from Aston Villa.

It now appears that teenager Guiu will become the club’s third summer signing, which sees Chelsea continue their policy of signing the best young talent from around the world.

Chelsea reach agreement in principle for Guiu

Ornstein has reported in The Athletic that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle on a long term contract until 2030 with the Spanish striker.

The reports adds that the Blues are set to activate Guiu’s €6m release clause and will then organise a medical in London before officially completing the move.

Guiu is set to become Chelsea’s third summer signing.

Guiu came through the ranks at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, and broke into the first team under Xavi last season, making seven appearances.

The teenager had a debut to remember as he scored 23 seconds after coming off the bench against Athletic Bilbao, and he also scored in the Champions League against Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

Guiu reportedly turned down a new contract to stay with the Spanish giants in order to join Chelsea, where it’s believed the plan is for him to be assessed by Enzo Maresca in pre-season before a final decision is taken on whether he will be part of the first team squad next season.

Chelsea are looking for a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, and it remains to be seen if Guiu is the man, with some reports suggesting the Blues will still look to bring another striker in.

The club have been linked with Lille’s Jonathan David and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion, but interest in Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran seems to have cooled.
