Gareth Taylor will have been delighted with the displays of his young charges.

Blindkilde Brown was handed her debut alongside former City player Ruby Mace with Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman saying before the game: “They have done well during the whole week. They came into our environment well and they have done well.

“I want to see what they can do in their role tonight.”

Wiegman made 10 changes from the game with the USA, with Alex Greenwood on the bench.

Both City stars were bright and inventive throughout the first half, with Grace Clinton scoring what would be the only goal of the game after just eight minutes.

Park was replaced by Alessia Russo at the break, and Blindkilde Brown almost made it a scoring debut with a low shot - only to be denied by a superb Elvira Herzog save on 58 minutes.

Meanwhile City duo Kerstin Casparij and Jill Roord couldn’t prevent Netherlands losing 2-1 to the USA at Den Haag.

Roord claimed an assist early on when her corner was headed home by Veerle Buurman on 15 minutes and both Casparij and Roord went close to increasing the lead shortly after.

Roord was causing numerous problems for the visitors, but Dutch scorer Buurman then put past her own keeper on 44 minutes to make it 1-1.

Lynn Williams gave the USA the lead on 71 minutes and Casparij’s evening ended on 87 minutes with the hosts unable to find an equaliser in the time that remained.
