That left the club needing bring in some strong new recruits, if they were to have a chance of replicating their push for a place in the Championship play-off from the 2022/23 season.

In the end though, that did not happen, and the club spent much of the most recent campaign battling to avoid relegation to League One, with survival only confirmed on the final day.

This summer, the ongoing financial uncertainty around the club means there is a sense that most fans will settle for the club simply being able to put together a squad that can stay clear of the bottom three.

However, that may well be influenced, to some extent at least, by the immediate future of one of those who made their own departure from Blackburn Rovers last summer.

Thomas Kaminski on the move again

After three years with the club, Thomas Kaminski would depart Ewood Park in August 2023, to join Luton Town, who at the time had just been promoted to the Premier League.

It was reported that the Hatters paid a fee in the region to sign the goalkeeper, who had made 118 appearances in all competitions during his time with Rovers.

While Kaminski had almost always been a reliable option between the posts while at Blackburn, his departure from the club proved costly.

Aynsley Pears was trusted to step into the number one vacated by the Belgian, with Leo Wahlstedt brought in to provide cover and competition.

Both though, would make a number of damaging errors over the course of the campaign, that did not help Rovers as they attempted to keep clear of the relegation zone.

As a result, the way things have played out since the end of the season, means there is an argument that those of a Blackburn persuasion, will again be taking an interest in Kaminski's future this summer.

Another Thomas Kaminski transfer could hurt Blackburn Rovers

In the end, Kaminski's debut campaign with Luton would end in disappointment, with the club suffering relegation back to the Championship after just a single season in the top-flight.

However, the goalkeeper did his own personal reputation little harm during the course of the campaign.

The 31-year-old won plenty of praise for his performances, so much so that another newly promoted Premier League side, Ipswich Town, have now been credited with an interest in his services.

If a move to Portman Road for Kaminski was to happen this summer however, it would potentially prove to be something of a blow to Blackburn.

Given the struggles that Pears and Wahlstedt endured at Ewood Park last season, the prospect of signing a new goalkeeper was always going to be on the agenda this summer.

Now, with confirmation that Wahlstedt has departed the club after just a single season to join Danish side Aarhus, a new goalkeeper is a major priority for Rovers in the transfer window.

Reports had identified Tim Krul and John Ruddy as two options that Blackburn were targeting to fill that role. However, the latter has now completed a move to Newcastle United, ruling him out.

That leaves Kaminski's Luton teammate Krul as the apparent standout option for Rovers to look to sign this summer, as they aim to fill that void between the posts once again.

However, if Kaminski himself was to leave Kenilworth Road in the next few weeks amid that interest from Ipswich, it would be little surprise if Luton then looked to keep Krul, for a period at least.

Doing so would ensure the Hatters do not leave themselves short on options in that key position, with Krul having played second choice to Kaminski throughout last season.

If they were to take that stance in the event of the Belgian's departure, then it would hold up Blackburn's own pursuit of a top target in a position that is just as important to them.

That could then leave Rovers with less, if any, time to get a deal done for Krul, and could then find themselves scrambling around late in the market for other options, who by that point could be at a premium with other deals that will already have been completed by that point.

So while this time last year many Blackburn fans were disappointed to see Kaminski move to Luton, there is a good chance most of those will now be hoping that he stays there this summer.
