Tyrhys Dolan's contract is set to expire this summer
Blackburn Rovers’ head of football operations Rudy Gestede has claimed a decision on Tyrhys Dolan’s future won’t be made until the summer.
The winger’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning he will be free to leave the club.
There is uncertainty over whether an agreement can be struck to keep him at Ewood Park beyond this season.
Negotiations have been held between the two parties, but it remains unclear whether the 23-year-old can be convinced to stay amid potential interest from elsewhere.
Gestede has claimed that a decision over Dolan’s future likely won’t be made until the summer after the player has assessed all of his options.
He believes that the forward will be the subject of interest from other clubs, praising his performances for Blackburn so far this season.
"I would say that Tyrhys had a very good season,” said Gestede, via the Lancashire Telegraph.
“He's a young, exciting player.
“He will attract attention from other clubs.
"I cannot lie, there will be clubs that are going to come at him.
“So it will be a discussion with Tyrhys if it's not ongoing already, and we'll assess it in the summer.
"But then it's up to him also.
“Does he want to take his chance to be out of contract and go somewhere else? There is something that we can provide as a club, but there are also some different parameters and conditions that we cannot offer.
"I cannot mention too much about Tyrhys Dolan but that's a player who is having a very good season.
“So I understand the fact that the club will come for him.”
Gestede has revealed that talks have been held with Dolan over his future, suggesting he’s happy at Ewood Park.
"We had a brief discussion with Tyrhys,” he continued.
“He mentioned that he was happy at the club, but then we needed to discuss with his agent.
“So that's something going on.
"Obviously, nothing has been signed yet, but we need to find the right way to address the situation.
“As I said, I just arrived in the summer.
“Did he want to sign in the summer? Maybe a good question to ask him.
"We will see after the season where he wants to be and what's his ambition for the rest of his career."
When asked if Dolan was definitely going to leave Blackburn, he replied: “No, everything is still possible.”
Blackburn are currently 11th in the Championship table, with seven games remaining in the regular season.
Dolan has proven himself as a key figure for Rovers since first coming through the academy system.
He’s made 37 appearances in the Championship this year, contributing four goals and five assists as the club chases a play-off place.
The forward is someone who could be quite valuable in the transfer market, so losing him for nothing would be a real blow financially.
He is someone that would have to be replaced given his importance to Valerien Ismael's team, which will also be costly, so Blackburn must avoid finding themselves in a situation like this again in the future, even if he does ultimately renew.
