Rovers have been busy over the past few weeks as Ismael looks to reshape the squad ahead of his first full season at Ewood Park.

The ex-Barnsley chief is looking to address various areas of the pitch ahead of the new season, and bringing in a new centre-back is seemingly a priority.

Blackburn Rovers keen on Malmö centre-back Colin Rosler

That’s after Swedish media outlet Sportbladet revealed that Blackburn have started ‘initial discussions’ with Malmö over Rosler.

The 25-year-old joined the Swedish champions in 2024, playing 11 times in the previous campaign as they won the title.

He is an important figure in the side this season as Malmö chase a third straight title, whilst he has just played in both legs as the Swedish side knocked out Georgian outfit Iberia 1999 in their first Champions League qualifying round.

The update adds that Malmö’s stance on a potential Rosler sale is unclear right now, with the club seemingly battling to retain several key players this summer.

Colin Rosler would be a smart signing for Blackburn Rovers

Rosler will know all about Blackburn as he spent almost a decade in England as part of Man City’s academy, the club his Dad, Uwe, played for during his career.

Since leaving City, Rosler has got plenty of experience, turning out for NAC Breda, Lillestrom and Mjallby before joining Malmö, whilst he has also won one cap for Norway.

Given his age, Rosler fits the profile for what Blackburn want, as he has room to improve, but he also has the ability to make his mark on the team immediately.

With Danny Batth having moved on, and Blackburn short on quality in that department anyway, it’s understandable that Ismael wants to bring in at least one defender, and it’s crucial they use their resources well, considering they won’t have the biggest budget.

So, on paper, this would be a good addition for Rovers, although it may not be easy to reach an agreement with Malmö, particularly at the moment, as they look to reach the Champions League group stage, which would bring huge financial sums to the club.
