FLW's Blues fan pundit has had his say on who is the most exciting talent at the club.
Birmingham City have assembled one of the most expensive squads ever seen in League One, but they also have one or two young players who cost them nothing and could make an impact in the future.
Blues' summer spending spree saw them make the three most expensive signings in League One history, as per Transfermarkt.com, while three of their other new players also feature among the 15 most costly players to have ever made a move to the third tier.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Chris Davies' side have put themselves in a good position to compete for the league title during the remainder of the season, with just one point separating them from table-toppers Wycombe Wanderers at this stage, while they also have a game in hand on the Chairboys.
Birmingham have plenty of quality and experience in their squad, but there are also a couple of young players in and around the first team who could make an impact during the next few years.
We asked our Birmingham fan pundit, Mike Gibbs, which young player he thinks is the most exciting talent at the club.
"The biggest talent at the club at the moment is Romelle Donovan, for me," said Mike.
"Last year he burst onto the scene and played quite a few times under Rooney, then when Rowett came in he had a few games as well."
The Birmingham fan pundit added that he would like to see Donovan sent out on loan somewhere else in the second half of the season after he's struggled to make much of an impact at fellow League One side Burton Albion.
He said: "His loan at Burton didn't go very well during the first half of the season, so I think he has probably not progressed as much as we would have hoped, but returning to the club ahead of a potential loan for the second half of the season could do him a world of good.
"The talent is there, the work ethic is there, but he is a bit lightweight. I think he needs to work on that.
"I still think he is the best talent that we have got."
Donovan joined Burton on loan ahead of this season, but he made just one start in the league for the Brewers, while his only goal came in the Vertu Trophy.
Having played seven times in the Championship for Blues last term, the 18-year-old will no doubt be hoping to add to his experience during the remainder of the campaign.
It will be interesting to see whether he makes a temporary move to League Two or joins a different League One side that will give him another chance to show what he is capable of in the third tier.
Either way, Birmingham will hope that he can gain confidence from his next loan move and be ready to impress upon his return to St Andrew's.
