Following their return to Serie A and an opening match defeat to Napoli, Sassuolo have strengthened their squad with the acquisition of experienced midfielder Nemanja Matić.

The newly promoted club has secured the services of the former Chelsea and Manchester United player, with the 37-year-old Serbian signing a contract until the end of the season, which includes an option for a further year.

The Serbian midfielder brings prior Serie A experience from his time with Roma during the 2023–24 campaign, before subsequent spells at French clubs Rennes and Lyon. Last season, he made 37 appearances for Lyon, contributing one goal and one assist.
