Leicester City have made their interest in the 29-year-old concrete
Leicester City have offered Josh Brownhill a contract following his Burnley exit.
The Foxes are ramping up preparations for their return to the Championship, with a friendly against Italian side Fiorentina on August 3 their last before competitive football returns.
New boss Marti Cifuentes has added just Asmir Begovic to his ranks this summer and now has his sights set on the former Clarets captain.
Clubs such as West Ham United, Celtic and Ipswich Town have all been linked with Brownhill this summer, but the Foxes now look to be the first outfit to make a concrete move.
According to FourFourTwo, Leicester City have offered the 29-year-old a lengthy contract proposal.
Backed as one of the favourites to fight for the Championship title, Cifuentes and Co. have targeted Brownhill as someone who would raise the quality of their current crop.
Last year saw the outgoing Burnley captain enjoy his best season to date, netting 18 times and providing six assists in 42 Championship appearances.
This included a brace against Sheffield United in the match that secured the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League.
The midfielder is thought to be considering his options after exiting Turf Moor, a ground he spent half a decade operating out of.
It’s also rumoured that Brownhill is an admirer of Daniel Farke’s setup at Leeds United, but it isn’t clear yet whether the Whites have him on their list of targets.
A move abroad also can’t be ruled out with the former Preston North End and Bristol City man willing to entertain offers from clubs in Europe if they appear.
Leicester City went out of the top-flight with a whimper last term, becoming the first Premier League team to lose eight games in a row without scoring a single goal.
The summer that followed has hardly been inspiring, with the Foxes having to streamline their squad before spending to comply with the EFL’s rules.
Brownhill would represent brilliant value for money, as his signing wouldn’t require a transfer fee.
Leicester would be acquiring a player who has just come off the best season in his career and therefore, isn’t likely to need much time to adapt to his new surroundings.
There is still likely to be stiff competition for the 29-year-old, but the Foxes have made the first move, which could turn out to be a decisive one in the race for Brownhill’s services.
